3. Book Ownership and Fair Use

3.1 Supporting Authors and Literature

ReadVocab is committed to supporting authors and the literary community. We believe that great literature should be accessible to language learners while ensuring creators are fairly compensated for their work. Our flashcard system is designed to enhance, not replace, the reading experience of original works.

3.2 Mandatory Book Purchase

Before purchasing and accessing any flashcard set on ReadVocab, you MUST own a legitimate copy of the corresponding book. This is a strict requirement for using our Service. This requirement:

  • Ensures authors and publishers are fairly compensated
  • Supports the continued creation of great literature
  • Maintains the integrity of the publishing ecosystem
  • Provides you with the complete reading experience

3.3 Nature of Content

Our flashcards contain:

  • Individual sentences showing word usage in context
  • Each sentence is used solely for educational purposes
  • Sentences are presented in isolation and cannot be used to reconstruct the original work
  • Content is specifically designed for vocabulary learning and cannot substitute for reading the original work

4. Intellectual Property

4.1 ReadVocab Content

The following elements are protected by intellectual property rights:

  • Organization and structure of flashcards
  • Learning methodology and spaced repetition system
  • User interface and platform design
  • Selection and arrangement of educational content

4.2 Third-Party Content

  • Dictionary definitions are aggregated from publicly available sources
  • Example sentences are individually quoted from original works for educational purposes
  • Audio pronunciations and translations are generated through licensed services

5. User Rights and Restrictions

5.1 Granted Rights

Upon purchase, users receive:

  • Personal, non-transferable access to purchased flashcard sets
  • Right to use the learning tools and features
  • Access to audio and translation services
  • Points and upvotes according to their purchased plan tier
  • Permanent access to purchased content with no recurring payments

5.2 Restrictions

Users may not:

  • Share account access or content
  • Copy or distribute flashcards
  • Use the Service without owning the corresponding books
  • Attempt to reconstruct original works from example sentences
  • Transfer or sell points or upvotes
  • Manipulate the wishlist system

5.3 Points and Wishlist System

  • Points are awarded based on plan tier
  • Points cannot be exchanged for monetary value
  • Wishlist additions and upvotes are limited per plan
  • Books nominated for the wishlist must:
    • Have an active Goodreads page
    • Be available for purchase on Amazon
    • Be in English (original or translated works)
  • Abuse of the wishlist system may result in account suspension

6.2 Audio and Translations

Generated through automated services for educational purposes only.

7. Disclaimers

We make no warranties regarding:

  • The accuracy of translations or pronunciations
  • The precision of CEFR level assignments
  • The completeness of definitions

8. Content Removal

We reserve the right to:

  • Remove or modify any flashcard sets at any time
  • Provide alternative content or credit for removed materials
  • Terminate access for Terms violations

9. Changes to Terms
